I was browsing the headlines during a break in class today and came across a story about a fire in a North Vancouver apartment building. It turns out that this building was Julia's previous home. She lived there from October 2006 to August 2007, and remembers her first apartment fondly (she constantly reminded me about it when she moved in with me). Julia told me that the fire seems to have started in the apartment of, how do I put this politely, an eccentric senior citizen. The official cause of the fire has not yet been released, but we wonder if this lady had something to do with it.We have seen many news reports on television and on the Internet. Julia's old apartment is immediately adjacent to the side of the building destroyed by the fire and we could see it on the news footage. We also saw the building manager being interviewed - a really nice lady who was really kind to Julia - and not surprisingly she looked like she was in shock. Julia is now awaiting the release of the names of the people who succumbed to the fire, fearing that she knew some of the old women. Thank goodness for the 11-year old who raised the alarm and likely prevented more fatalities.
